BASIC INFORMATION
The settlement lies 10 kms northeast of Nagykanizsa. The first written mention of the settlement comes form 1744. The settlers were originally ethnic German who brought ther family traditions, love to work and belief from ther country. They gradually became Hungarian, only some names of their economic devices remind of their origin. Most of the inhabitants were Catholic. In the 19 th century people in the area made their living from animal husbandry. German and Hungarian were both taught at schools, However, half of the population could not read and write even in the 1870s. The population has gradually decreased in Fűzvölgy. From 1966 schoolchildren go to school to the neighbouring Nagykanizsa. Most people are traditionally involved in agriculture. Some people commute to Nagykanizsa. The settlement\'s twin city is Koblencz in Germany. This is the place where the inhabitants originally came from.
